Technological Specialization

Comrade Software specializes in the LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL,and PHP) solution stack. In addition, Comrade Software utilizes Smarty PHP templates, PEAR, subversion, memcache, the Zend framework, phpunit, Ajax and associated libraries, CSS, Dreamweaver and integration with content delivery networks such as Akamai, Limelight and Internap.

Performance and scalability of applications are enhanced through the development of cache friendly sites in conjunction with compiler caches and optimizers such as ionCube and the Zend Optimizer, HTTP accelerators, operating system tuning, data component caching, horizontal scaling (sharding), as well as application benchmarking, profiling, and load testing.

PlanetProfile
PlanetProfile was an ambitious portal for an Australian client that evolved into a six-figure project including online dating, job ads, real estate listings, local business listings, car sales, and classified advertising.

Initial plans called for the site to be launched with Australian television advertising, creating a significant traffic spike for which we planned to employ a combination of IBM Australia's scalable mainframe hosting service and Akamai's global content delivery network. Ultimately, the client and their investors elected not to launch the full portal, for internal reasons not related to us, although it is possible that this project may be resurrected in the future. (A downgraded remnant of the site remains live, but we are not responsible for its current design.)

AppraisersHere
AppraisersHere is a nationwide advertising directory for real estate appraisers, searchable by location or zipcode. Since this venture employed multiple salespeople, we created a suite of internal sales support tools in PHP, including lead recording and tracking, territory assignments, and monthly sales and commission reports.

REOAppraisers
As a second application of the above tools and codebase, we created this site for appraisers who specialize in forclosure appraisal, a field which is obviously timely.

Etheon
Etheon is an online ethics compliance platform for large companies in California and elsewhere. Etheon's initial services, launching at the end of September, include online sexual-harassment courseware (built in Flash and streaming FLV) and a variety of administrative features (built in PHP) for companies to verify employee learning and manage their own compliance documents online.

Since the userbase of this service may grow rapidly without warning -- any single client sale may add thousands of new employees, and we expect users to number in the hundreds of thousands if the client's venture succeeds -- we have engineered all back-end features for maximum scalability, including the use of Internap's content delivery network for massively parallel delivery of the video files.

iPhone Development

We are developing a portfolio of iPhone applications, including games and utilities, with estimated release dates ranging from June through September of 2009. We are also building applications for a number of end clients -- please contact us for more information.

Mobile Flash

Comrade Software is an authorized Qualcomm BREW developer. We are currently producing a range of Flash Lite content targeted at Nokia, Motorola, LG and Sony-Ericsson devices in various markets. (more info »)

Translation and Localization

We can provide translation services for documents or electronic media in all common file formats (specializing in French to English). Previous translation clients include Michelin, BIC, and the Pasteur Institute.
